Infrastructure Ontario (IO) is a crown corporation that plays a critical role in supporting the Ontario government to modernize and maximize the value of public infrastructure and real estate, manage government facilities, and finance the renewal of the province’s public infrastructure. We are currently looking for a Website and Creative Specialist in our Communications team to improve, develop and maintain IO’s external website, intranet and print media along with spearheading activities to help promote awareness of the IO brand and build support for IO with external partners and clients.
The successful incumbent will have proficiency in the following:
KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Achieve results for Business Strategy and Communications and input in to the quarterly summary of results.
Strive to exceed expectations set in IO’s purpose, values and corporate objectives.
Adhere to corporate policies, protocols and directives including those related to conflict of interest, procurement, ethics travel and hospitality.
Adhere to policies, protocols and directives including government directives, the IO Communications Policy, the Ministry Communications Protocol and requirements of the Advertising Review Board.
Implement procurements, expenses and accountability requirements, based on direction from the Manager and in accordance with the delegations of authority.
Website and creative services
Recommend to the Manager approaches to enhance the external and internal websites including design, user experience, SEO.
Maintain website in compliance with IO’s obligations, requirements and best practices pertaining to the French Language Services Act (FLSA Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and Ontario government’s visual identity standards for online use.
Recommend to the Manager approaches to cooperate with other corporate service units such as HR and Information Technology in order to enhance the capacity of the external and internal websites.
Maintain and publish new content to the external and internal websites as approved by the Manager.
Monitor and report on website and conduct analysis of usage trends and user feedback to identify information gaps, areas for improvement.
Assist with the development and design of print and web resources such as brochures, advertisements, web layouts and graphics.
Coordinate work with external vendors on digital and graphic design projects as needed.
Media relations and crisis communications
Contribute to the Communication team’s efforts to enhance crisis communications capabilities in the organization that improve projects communications.
Advise the Manager of requirements for external and internal websites during crisis communications and be prepared to manage the tools accordingly.
Actively participate in and contribute to Corporate Marketing and Communications Services team’s meetings.
Contribute to a trusted and knowledgeable team of experts that deliver high quality communications for our organization and clients.
Build productive relationships with other Communications Advisors.
Education and Knowledge
Diploma/degree in marketing or design related field.
Experience of web development, online publishing and social media development is required.
Knowledge of web development principles, conventions and best practices including HTML coding and experience in using a CMS (Content Management System
Knowledge of web accessibility standards/WCAG 2.0.
Experience working in either the B2B or public sector environment is an asset.
Over 5 years experience, managing websites implementing rich media strategies. Demonstrated experience in the development of marketing collateral such as brochures, flyers, signage and web graphics.
Experience in presenting and coaching others, particularly regarding digital media practices.
Skills and personal attributes
Advanced skills using Adobe Creative Suite 6 (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign Acrobat Professional, MS Office Suite and web content management software. Experience using Ektron CMS is an asset.
Sound judgment to work with and provide advice to executives.
Strong inter-personal skills and confident verbal and written communication.
Track-record of working effectively and competently as an individual that demonstrates a strong work-ethic and an ability to be a team player.
Ability to routinely manage several projects simultaneously while producing thoughtful, analytical and creative work to a tight deadline.
Proficient in various computer applications, for example Windows, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio and Outlook.
