Become a Disaster Management volunteer Become a Disaster Management volunteer Purpose: To support branch activities during all levels of  disaster management; Response, Preparedness, Prevention, Mitigation, and Recovery. Duties &      Responsibilities Promote personal emergency preparedness through workshops and special events Train with specialized teams to ensure branch and self response readiness Coordinate with and support municipalities, emergency services and other community groups to improve disaster preparedness and response capabilities; Assist residents and communities after disasters of any scale, such as fires and floods; Work with team members to ensure the highest quality of service delivery to our clients.   Qualifications   ·         Must be over 18 years of age ·         Good interpersonal and communication skills ·         Works well in a team situation ·         Works well in a challenging and sometimes stressful environment in less than ideal conditions ·         Ability to empathize with people affected by a disaster ·         Clear police record check, including clearance for vulnerable sectors ·         Experience in Emergency Management considered an asset ·         G-level driver’s license considered an asset        Time Commitment Minimum one year commitment. Volunteers must be available to attend to 6-8 hour shifts on location at a central dispatch and able to potentially respond 24/7 as required.  Also must be able to attend at least one monthly team meeting on a quarterly basis.
